Wisdom teeth are actually an extra third set of molars that erupt in the very back of a person’s mouth, behind the other adult molars. Not everyone gets wisdom teeth. If you do, you’ll usually notice them begin to erupt in your late teens or early twenties. If you have enough room in your mouth for this extra set of molars, it’s not a problem. But if you don’t have room, your dentist may recommend wisdom tooth removal. Dr. Whitehouse offers this service to her patients from throughout the Austin, TX area.

Why You Should Visit Derby Dental for Wisdom Tooth Removal

  • If you don’t have enough room in your mouth to accommodate your wisdom teeth, it can be quite painful, and that might make you an excellent candidate for wisdom tooth removal
  • Because wisdom teeth are located so far back in the mouth, they’re much harder to clean than other teeth, which can lead to tartar buildup and decay – another reason to consider wisdom tooth removal
  • Wisdom teeth may become impacted if they come in at an angle or only partially erupt, and impacted wisdom teeth should be removed

The Process Involved in Wisdom Tooth Removal

Dr. Whitehouse will usually recommend that an X-ray be taken to determine whether or not your wisdom teeth should be removed. After that, the procedure will take place in our Austin office. Although the procedure is quite common and similar to having other teeth extracted, removing wisdom teeth requires oral surgery, so you should plan on taking some time off from work or school to allow yourself enough time to heal. Dr. Whitehouse and her staff will provide you with a full set of instructions after the extractions to make sure that you can heal as comfortably as possible at home
